Description
Devil's Playground and Devil's Spires are granite crags with over 700 routes. The area sits north of the Bovine Mountains which are at the southern end of the Grouse Creek Mountain range north west of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. There is excellent dispersed camping scattered throughout the crags and the two main climbing zones are about 3 miles apart. Climbing here is great in the Spring, when the weather tends to be predictable and dry (especially when compared to the City of Rocks); conditions are also great here in the fall. Summers tend to be hot, although climbing can still be had if you're willing to chase shade.

Directions to Devil's Playground climbing
The Devil's Playground is 70 miles west of Snowville Utah and accessible by car. From Snowville (closest services: gas stations and restuarant), take Utah highway 30 about 60 miles, passing Park Valley and Rosette, to mile marker 33. Take a right (west) immediately before mile marker 33 to a generally well maintained dirt road (cars) and follow Forest Service Road 105, Emigrant Trail road, about 9 miles to Devil's Playground. At the sign, you can go left about three miles to the Spires climbing area and camping, straight up to hill for dispersed climbing and camping (high clearance) or take a left to the main Devil's Playground climbing and camping. The Devil's playground can also be reached from the south via Nevada 233 which intersects I-80 west of Wendover. Nevada 233 becomes Utah 30 in Utah and there is alternative access near mile marker 24; however, much of this road is not maintained and its condition may require high clearance vehicles and 4x4 in some sections.
