Description
The Basecamp Subzone is home to several crags that have a good selection of shorter, moderate climbing. It's well suited for families and large groups, and is named for the large campground that sits in a wind-protected depression adjacent to the Happy Hour and Basecamp crags. It also serves as an starting point to access other subzones including The Devil's Fins, Aiguille du RV, Le Grand Classique, and The Highlands.
Getting There
From the T-intersection of Emmigrant Pass Road and Devil's Playground Road, head left (west) for about 1 mile until you see a spur heading southeast down a hill towards an obvious large crag. There are two parallel roads: the left road is passable but has a washout you need to straddle with your vehicle; the right road is more friendly. The Gateway Slabs and Happy Hour crag are found to the right (south) at the bottom of the hill. You can also head east across a short wash to access the Corridor, Disruptor, Basecamp, Tombstone, and Playground.
