Description Suggest change

Situated north of its bigger sibling, Little Beacon Rock (LBR) is a much smaller and older remnant of the volcanic age. Roughly 250' high, LBR's south face is easily viewed from the road that runs below its scree cone on the way to the upper campground. For the most part, LBR is an exfoliating moss-covered chunk of igneous rock, however, it has graciously provided one relatively clean route up its face. The views from the top of the formation provide a grand sweeping vista of the Columbia River Gorge and the trail off the top wanders through a lush grove of Douglas firs and a quaint rock garden populated by Pikas. Access is easy and convenient with ample parking and a short approach, the descent is a pleasant walk-off reminiscent of the many multi-pitch routes on the bigger Beacon Rock to the south.

Getting There Suggest change

From Highway 14 within Beacon Rock State Park, take the Mt Hamilton Trailhead exit. Drive uphill passing the parking for the Mt Hamilton Trailhead, the upper picnic area, and continue into the upper campground loop. At the end of the campground loop and next to campsite #10 is the Hadley Trailhead. This is the ideal place to park because it is rarely occupied and is located right near the exit trail.
If this trailhead is busy or full, head back down the road, take the first right, go uphill, and park in the Upper Picnic area.
