The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
Lift 4 is the south-facing, tiered, long formation just east of Pearly Gates and uphill of Death Valley. This area sees a ton of sun (as does Pearly Gates) thanks to being both south facing and at the top of the canyon. There are few routes here currently, but there is potential for more routes, especially in the more moderate grades. There's some potential for some neat looking bouldering on the way up as well.
While the slope down to the bike path is fairly gradual, still exercise caution up here, as there is a chance of loose rock making it all of the way down on an especially high gravity and unlucky day.
