Description Suggest change

Farther up Dexter Creek beyond Dexter Creek Slabs are several drainages with ice to climb. The north-facing ones off Bridge of Heaven are the largest and have the most reliable ice, which should form early in the season most years. These also are subject to terrific avalanches and should be avoided if there's any hazard.

Getting There Suggest change

A couple miles north of Ouray, head north/east on County Road 14, keeping right at the bridge just over 1 mile up. Continue past the parking for Dexter Creek Slabs if conditions allow, or park and hike from there, another 1.25 miles up the road to the trailhead on the left, just before the road switches back to the west across Dexter Creek. The road is not plowed beyond the lower parking area, and it is normally impassable to wheeled vehicles by the end of November.
