Description
This is a beautiful, woodsy area where you can enjoy hiking, trail running, biking, and even climbing! The Cape has many of these conservation lands, and if you look closely enough, there just might be a boulder waiting to be established. This area specifically has many trails, but all are marked, and there are usually other people enjoying the area. This area has free parking and free access, and just respect the area, because there are apparently security cameras established.
Getting There
Google "West Barnstable Conservation Area" on Google Maps. Coming from Cotuit Road in Sandwich MA, take the last exit at the rotary once you reach the small municipal airport. Drive about 0.2 miles, and take a left on Popple Bottom Road across from the golf course. Parking is right there at the Otis Atwood trailhead.
To access the boulder, walk up Otis Atwood trailhead from the parking lot about 500 feet, and bear left at the split. Keep walking until you hit the large access road. Turn right at the access road, and walk about 0.75 miles until you hit another split in the road. Take a right at the crossroads, walk about another 500 feet, and the boulder is up on the hill on the right side with firewood around it. You should be able to see a field in the close distance, and if you do, you're at the boulder.
