Description Suggest change

This is the main cliff featuring the tallest routes on either side of an impressive arete. Massive trees provide a shaded staging area with a downed-log bench to rest your legs after the approach. Classics abound, including Tres Panchos, Desperado, and Pantera Negra. Helmets are recommended as freeze-thaw and newly developed routes still yield occasional hazards, though the faces provide excellent climbing on steep and solid rock. Be sure to turn around and take in the views.

Getting There Suggest change

From the parking, look across the dirt road for cairns that guide you towards a big tree with a break in the short cliff. Hike up and right into this gully, following cairns up a well-established trail. The trail deposits you in a narrow field/meadow where a well-worn trail leads to a mountain lion skull staked as a trail blaze. From the skull, more cairns lead you to the obvious boulders. Hike around the Chevron Boulder and through the Tunnel Boulder, making your way past two smaller boulders towards the cliff. After the boulders, skirt right around a tree to gain a large cairn which marks the immediate left turn steeply uphill towards the cliff. This trail is more faint but heavily cairned throughout. The approach takes approximately 25-30 minutes from parking to the base, but it can be done in 20 minutes moving briskly, or 30-40 minutes with heavy packs. Many social trails can take you to various scattered boulders, but all trails eventually lead to the main cliff; cairns all guide to the Spanish Dagger Fortress.
