History + Description
The Hédas district has a rich history dating as far back as the 15th century. It served as a grazing area for livestock, and according to legend it was also the site of sword duels in the 16th century.
Between the 17th and 19th century the Hédas gained a bad reputation, the stream which trailed through it serving as a sewer for the surrounding slums. A reformation project in the late 19th century buried the stream deep beneath the Hédas, and by the 1920s it became, more or less, what it is today.
The Hédas has a rich history which contributes strongly to the allure of climbing here. There are a variety of buildering possibilities, utilizing the middle age infrastructure of the moat. Most walls range from 3m to 6m high on a variety of rock types. There are a variety of slab and overhanging climbs within the Hédas, with many possible routes to be established.
Some have mentioned that the moat has been toproped in the past, but the legality of this is unclear.
