Description
This includes all of the crags surrounding the St. Elmo area to the southwest of Buena Vista within the Sawatch Range. St. Elmo is a small mining town once booming with nearly double or triple the population of Buena Vista. The rock here is a fantastic, finely-grained granite. Most routes are best in the middle of the summer, as this area remains to be pretty high in elevation, but the fall season has been known to be fantastic here as well. For bouldering in the area, reference the "West" section of the Arkansas River Valley Bouldering page off of the main Buena Vista page.
Getting There
Take US 285 south out of Buena Vista towards Salida. Right around when you pass the town of Nathrop, take a right onto Chalk Creek Drive (also known as Co. Rd. 162). This road will eventually turn into County Road 162. From there, follow the road for several miles until you reach the town of St. Elmo.
