Description
The origin of the word Pamir is much debated, but it likely comes for the old Persian "Bam-i-ar" which translates to "roof of the earth," close to the title you may have heard: the Roof of the World. These mountains are high and remote, and for most, far from the beaten path. Trekking is growing in popularity, and the infrastructure is slowly growing to meet the demand. Mountaineering also has some history since the Soviet era, but it is certainly not busy today! There are also rumors of high-quality unclimbed granite faces throughout the range, waiting to be climbed!
