Description
Salamander wall is the first block on Sunnyside, you’ll see it from the main hiking trail. It’s got the easiest approach for all of Deception and it was the first area on Sunnyside with any routes bolted.
Ironically it gets shade til about noon, afternoon expect dappled sunlight thanks to the large old growth trees surrounding the base of the wall, not a bad place to climb if you don’t wanna bake on the main exposed cliff bands that comprise a majority of Sunnyside.
Getting There
Hike down the main trail for 0.41 miles, you’ll see the rock on the right side of the trail, the trail hooks left and begins climbing steeply with a switch back or two. Before the trail hooks there is a large downed tree that appears to be partially burned, depart from the main trail and surmount a small hill directly right of this tree corpse. Follow the rough climbers trail hugging the base of the cliff until you see the bolts.
It’s only 100-200 feet off the main trail.
