Description
High above Oakridge is yet another dome with blocky basaltic or andesitic walls and steep terrain on several aspects. Particularly impressive is a series of well-shaded caves and overhangs on the NW side, some clean panels of end-on columns on the south side, and a few 60-80m walls on the E side. All are on public land.
There was no development here as of 2021. Maybe someday there could be 50-100 good routes, but don't hold your breath. Expect bushwhacking and loose rock. Bring a helmet. High enough that poison oak/ivy aren't an issue, at least at the base of the walls.
The major barrier here is the approach. Beyond the Salamander wall, which is pretty close to the existing trail, the other aspects require some log hopping and bushwhacking. If enough good routes go up it may be worth rallying some community support on the trail front. Until then expect an "adventure crag"
If you're interested in developing here feel free to get in touch. No shortage of work to be done, that's for sure.
Getting There
Park at the deception butte upper trailhead. Searchable on google maps. Follow the trail for 5 min until it goes uphill steeply, at which point you bushwhack down and either right or left, depending on the wall.
If we can get ahold of a chainsaw to clear out NF-550, that will definitely be the preferred approach, potentially letting you drive within ~300 feet of the Cubist Cave.
