Description

North of Sondrio, Val Malenco is the access point for some of the bigger peaks in Lombardia, including Pizzo Scalino, Monte Disgrazia, and the south side of Piz Palu and Piz Bernina on the Swiss border. It's also home to numerous crags and waterfall ice routes.

Getting There

From Milano, take the SS36 north, through Lecco, along Lake Como. At the north end of Lake Como, near Curcio, take the SS38 east into Valtellina. Follow it to Sondrio, then take the SP15 north into Val Malenco, until you reach Chiesa in Valmalenco. From here, the valley splits: the west branch leads to Chiareggio and Monte Disgrazia, the east leads to Francia, Campo Moro and Pizzo Scalino.
