Fort Collins, Colo. (March 7, 2024) – to protect nesting birds of prey, the U.S. Forest Service is implementing annual area closures in several popular recreation areas throughout the Canyon Lakes Ranger District. The closures include Triple Tier, south of CO Highway 14; Boston Peak, north of CO Highway 14; Grazing Allotment Crag, northwest of Prairie Divide Road; and Mt. Olympus, southeast of US Highway 34. See the closure map for more details. Effective through July 31, 2024, the closures protect established raptor territories to ensure the birds remain undisturbed during sensitive breeding and nesting seasons.
The Canyon Lakes Ranger District partners with Colorado Parks & Wildlife and the Northern Colorado Climbers Coalition to monitor nesting progress and to inform climbers about the importance of giving raptors space to raise their young.
Federal and state laws prohibit disturbing any nesting bird of prey. Visitors can help protect wildlife by respecting all closures. Signs will be posted at key access points into the closed areas. Additional closure information is available online.

Description
A little hiking will offer up a handful of striking granite lines, and almost certainly some solitude.
A well known hiker's destination, the area has some bouldering and there are a few sport routes established to the north. Now with some developed natural lines to the southern and central aspects of the complex, there exists a variety of routes. Accessing some routes may involve 4th Class along the base.
Getting There
The area can be approached by either the Hewlett Gulch Trailhead or the Greyrock Trailhead (recommended). Greyrock Meadows Trail offers the most sure way to the base, but is slightly longer. The Hewlett approach is the most direct approach, but is much easier to get off track in the loose burn area.
From Greyrock TH: follow the Greyrock Meadows Trail ~2.6 miles until you reach the western aspect of the Greyrock Meadow. From here, continue northwest along the saddle to reach the crag, easiest hiking along the western most side of the saddle, 1.5+ hours (~3 miles).
From Hewlett TH: follow the trail ~1.5 miles, and begin to deviate to the east just after passing a large, square, trailside boulder in a broad meadow. There are remnants of a lightly packed hiking path up towards the saddle of the Greyrock Meadow, and I enhanced a sequence of cairns along the way to help consolidate a common approach. Follow these towards the saddle, and then stay along its western aspect all the way to the crag, 1 - 1.5 hours (~2.3 miles). A link to the approach trail.
