Description Suggest change

'Pangea' is a small valley buried deep in the Coast Range of Central BC; located within Foch-Gilttoyees Provincial Park immediately below the ~1200m+ North face of Mt Gilt. Huge granite walls rise on all sides. The rock quality is generally very good and the possibilities for huge ascents of untouched walls is extensive.

There is a small (and very active) glacier at valley bottom, and seracs pose overhead hazard to certain walls/ gulleys. Shelter from the elements is limited. Bugs (especially noseeums) can be bad around the marshy areas to the NE. Clean melt water can be easily found. Wildlife including bears and mountain goats is to be expected. There are waterfalls and seepage streaks on certain walls, which likely freeze to form mega ice lines in the winter.

Getting There Suggest change

Helicopter out from Terrace is the most straightforward option. The flight is approximately 45 minutes each way. Landing zones in the valley are very limited; hope for a bare patch of rock, otherwise the col is your best bet. Landing on the glacier is not recommended. We have flown with Quantum Helicopters from YXT twice and have had good experiences with them.

Theoretically there is potential land access via the Gilttoyees Creek valley, which would require a boat from Kitimat and a burly ~2 day bushwhack, topped off with a non-trivial skirt around the moraine lake. This option would be an impressive and respectable feat.
