Description Suggest change

Moria is the area formed by two huge boulders leaning up against one another. There is an awesome prow at the entrance. The "Gate to Moria", and "Upper Chamber" are reached by scrambling up and left into the corridor formed between the two boulders, and a "Lower Chamber" is found on the bottom right of the cave between the two boulders. Most of the problems will be in the shade almost all the time. The area has some really high quality moderates in the V2-V4 range -- kind of amazing that it was not developed sooner. Most of the landings are not great, so go with a friend who can spot you and a few pads.

Some folks have commented that John Duran or someone else probably climbed these problems years ago - maybe. When we found them, they were dirty including with lichen on may of the holds, but if you know who did the FA, when, or have a name PLEASE let me know or the specific detail in a comment. If you just "think someone probably already did it", then please consider what's posted here first *documented* ascents.

Access to Sailing Hawlks is no longer restricted and had not been documented. It's time to get the good stuff documented so others can find it and enjoy it. If you know of first ascents or other info, please contribute. Thanks.

Getting There Suggest change

Walking northwest on the upper portion of the trail (from Petrified, Pocket Change, the boulderfield) toward the Lorax, just before you get the the Lorax and the trail starts to bend left and downhill, you will see The Once-ler uphill to your right, and there will be a distinct trail that turns off and goes up hill and north. Follow this trail for 2-3 minutes past a number of smaller boulders, and you will see the two huge boulders that form the Moria area to your right. There is a picture of the view from the trail attached, and the GPS coordinates are 37.3173143, -107.8844447.

IMO, the fastest way to get here is to park at the second parking / pulloff, go up to the lower trail, take a left, cut up the the upper trail at The Ally.
