Description Suggest change

Sunny, South-East facing area above Gap Lake named after the speedy ravens that dive-bomb past the cliff and the British Airways radio callsign. Vertical and overhanging pitches with a great view of Wind tower and Peter Lougheed mtn. Lots of potential for development if you know how to clean rock properly. Even though they are sport climbs they feel exposed and "alpiny" so bring a helmet/poles/bear spray.

If you need more info contact: Matt Burrus or Regen Waldman for more- we would be happy to take you up there.

Getting There Suggest change

On the East side of Grotto Mountain above Gap Lake. 10min drive from Canmore, 50min drive from Calgary.

Hike is 40min uphill, 20min downhill. (it is steeper than the one to Acephale so hiking poles are helpful).

Park at the East side of Gap Lake near the boat launch (park in the available areas and follow the signs). Hike across the road and up the abandoned gravel pit access road heading west/left (it is blocked to cars with rocks). After 50m when the small uphill road becomes flat and you can see your car on your left- head straight up the steep meadow on your right. When you reach the top of the meadow look for a small gully with a large tree (on the east side of the meadow). On the right side of the gully there is a grey medium sized rock- the trail starts here.

Following the faint trail, continue upward staying in the gully/ trending left for about 150m (trail distance) until you find the first of the pink flagging tape. The trail has a lot of pink flags marking the rest of the way, just follow them uphill. There is one knotted rope to help with a steep section that marks about halfway on the trail. The approach arrives at the cliff from the West side so when the cliff is in sight keep an eye out for anyone bolting and let them know you are there.
