Description

Heckendorf is a cluster of slightly gneissic, granitic, glacial erratics next at the base of Mt. Columbia.

Getting There

From the main stop light in Buena Vista, head north on US Hwy 24. After 2.8 miles, take a left on CR 384. Take this road for 1.3 miles, and turn right on CR 361. Take this road for 1.5 miles, and turn left on CR 368. Go for 1.3 miles, and take a left on "Elk Walk". Then approximately 1 mile later, take a right on an unmarked dirt road. Go approximately 0.8 miles on this road to a faint pulloff on the right - that's the parking.

From the parking, head slightly north-northeast for 3/4 of a mile. You will walk next to private property, so make sure you stay on the west side of the fence on National Forest property.
