Description Suggest change

Mirkwood is a small wash densely populated with boulders. Most face south or east, so it is best when it's not too hot. Very few of the possible lines have been climbed (as of May '21). The rock is pretty sharp, like most of the tuft in the valley, but high quality.

Big thanks to Ryan Watters, who did hero's work cutting the trail through thick vegetation, and to Malcolm Hillewaert, for their work to discover and develop this area. They have uploaded some info is on 27 Crags here 27crags.com/crags/mordor-area (name to be updated from Mordor to Mirkwood, which fits better given the thick vegetation).

The most promising rock is at the top (west) end of the canyon, so follow the trail all the way to the end - it will only take about 10 minutes, and it will be worth the walk.

Enjoy, and document new routes here!

Getting There Suggest change

South of Monte Vista follow Lariat Rd. to the west, then follow the dirt roads. Park at 37°34'16.9"N 106°18'16.8"W. See the map to Rohan -- this parking is on the way, so it will get you there.
