Description Suggest change

The North Shore is about 70 feet tall, quite chossy, and made of a sort of water-worn volcanic rock. The nature of the climbing varies a lot and the routes are bound to change as they see future traffic. The wall is pretty much always in the shade and the landing is a nice, sandy riverbed. As of spring 2021 there are three sport routes, one of which has an extension (open project) of unknown difficulty. These routes were cleaned and bolted in late 2020.

Considering the location and surroundings, it’s a miracle that actual sport climbing can exist out here. There is definitely potential for more routes, however, serious cleaning will be required. We have a few more lines planned, a couple of which already have anchors and are in the process of being cleaned. We have also spent a lot of time scouting nearby rock outcroppings both up and down river. There is mild potential at a few spots, but the North Shore is definitely an anomaly and the best/tallest wall in the vicinity. The big white “wall” you see on the approach is totally different rock and most of it is entirely unclimbable.

We hope any potential route developers out here will reach out to us and keep us in the loop with your plans - we definitely want to know if the area gets more action.

Getting There Suggest change

Exit off the I-17 at Table Mesa Road and head West. The frontage road quickly turns to dirt. Drive 3-4 miles from the exit depending on your clearance. See detailed instructions below.

Coordinates for the wall itself: 34.01460304822765, -112.17686801279801

Civic: 25-30 minute hike

Map to “Little Pan Staging Area” on Google Maps. Coordinates for the staging area are 34.00464221590328, -112.16133265955433. Hike along the leftmost road branching from the staging area, head down hill and keep left until you reach a roundabout style dead end. Hike downriver (left) until you reach the big, dark wall called The North Shore.

Subaru Forester: 15 minute hike

Map to “Little Pan Staging Area” on Google Maps. Pass the entrance to the staging area and continue along the leftmost road branching from the staging area. Choose to park in any of the pullouts along the road. The road is currently manageable in a Forester up until the pullout at 34.01090344691081, -112.16842441957449. Hike along the road, head down hill and keep left until you reach a roundabout style dead end. Hike downriver (left) until you reach the big, dark wall called The North Shore.

4Runner/Jeep Cherokee/Subaru CrossTrek: 5-10 minute hike

Option 1: Slightly more rugged, more direct. Map directly to 34.01583941539551, -112.1734884502506” on Google Maps and it should take you to the parking in a roundabout style dead end. Hike down river until you reach the big, dark wall called The North Shore.

Option 2: Slightly easier, two easy river crossings. Map to same coordinates as option 1 but take the right fork at 33.99424072016103, -112.1484076272. Continue along the main road, cross two rivers and end at the same parking as option 1.
