Description
Welcome to Strawberry, the most well known zone on Woods Mountain and home to many classic Arkansas highballs. This area was mainly established by Jason Cook and proudly sports some of his classic test-pieces such as (Black Mamba, Venom and Anti-Venom, The Crippler, Lion Heart, Double Barrel, Goodie Bag) just to name a few.
Strawberry gets a lot of sun because it's south/southwest aspect but it is possible to climb here year round if you can time the shade, make use of overcast skies, and take advantage of some wind.
Over the past decade, Strawberry had been battered with numerous high winds and tornadoes leaving their carnage of downed trees and thickets of thorns. Approaches along the base of the cliff can be badly overgrown. Proper traffic and volunteer trail work will help re-establish access trails and beat back the overgrown to reclaim some landing zones.
Getting There
For the Front Corridor: Most people choose to park in the switchback and access Double Barrel and other front corridor problems via a short access trail from the switchback. This might also be the path of least resistance to gain access to the overlook and then walk the caprock over to Mamba Wall
If you are choosing to access Goodie Bag, Lion Heart, and Big Tex it is probably best to drive up the hill beyond the switchback and park in the large pull-off. This shortens the approach to the hinterlands of Strawberry and is also better access for Raspberry and Dingleberry.
