Description Suggest change

One of the closest Alpine areas to Lima. The main approach to the North West side of this small range is via the Rio Blanco River Valley to the Yuracmayo Damn and Lake.

Getting There Suggest change

Yuracmayo is a little over 25 miles via road from San Mateo, PE. You travel 10 miles on the main paved highway to the Rio Blanco and then on a steep windy gravel road to Yuracmayo Damn. You can take the this main dirt road over a pass to the Tanta District ( the road gets significantly worse as you go beyond Yuracmayo) or you can take the two track road along the west side of the lake to a Trail Head (4-5 Miles) at the Rio Blanco River inlet to the lake. There are some sport climbs on limestone near the trailhead. But the trail will access climbs on Paca and Sullcon both 5600Meter alpine climbs.
