Access Issue: Seasonal raptor closures and some private land
Details
Prudent to check locally for access. Seasonal closures and private land may limit or prohibit access.
Description
Sainte Baume is a long mountain massif running west from Geminos and rising to nearly 4000 feet above the Mediterranean to the south of its flanks.
Home to the Parc naturel régional de la Sainte-Baume: pnr-saintebaume.fr/
This large area is home to both small cliffs and larger terrain.
The area is also popular for its hiking trails, caving, and of course a pilgrimage to the Grotte Sainte-Marie Madeleine (holy cave!).
Given seasonal closures and private property, some inquiry at a local climbing shop or guide service would be prudent to understand what is open to climbing.
“A pleasant mountainous area of considerable character.” Bill Birkett – French Rock
