Access Issue: Gate Buttress Area Recreational Lease: Climbs on Church Buttress above vault remain closed

June 1st, 2017:The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance (SLCA), the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), and Access Fund announce the signing of an unprecedented lease for 140 acres in Little Cottonwood Canyon (LCC). The parcel, known as the Gate Buttress, is about one mile up LCC canyon and has been popular with generations of climbers because of its world-class granite.
The agreement secures legitimate access to approximately 588 routes and 138 boulder problems at the Gate Buttress for rock climbers, who will be active stewards of the property. The recreational lease is the result of several years of negotiations between LDS Church leaders and the local climbing community.
Access Note: The climbs on the Church Buttress above the vault as well as the Glen boulders that have been traditionally closed will remain closed.

Description
There is an excellent circuit of boulder problems in and around the Green A Gully, widely spread out in and around the talus. The rock can be grainy at times, though it cleans up well and in many places has a "Buttermilky" feel. But when the rock is good, it is really good. And even when it's not, the climbing can still be really fun (just watch yourself with the risk of broken holds and sketchy talus landings).
The purpose of this MP Sub-Area is to facilitate the documentation of those problems. Quality problems not yet posted (with mostly tentative grades) include The Fin (V4), The Shield (V4), The Great Recession (V5), Karate Chop Kid (V7), Tim's Arete (V6), Snow Fox (V8), The Green Monster (V8 from high start, with harder low start called The Green Midget), The Settlement (V10ish), Real Ancestors (V10ish), and Hour of Power (V13). Go up there, explore, and have fun!
