Description
First Wall hosts several 2 pitch/ long single pitch, low grade slab climbs, as well as a few moderates towards the right end of the wall. Most routes can be climbed with quick draws alone as many routes have been retro-bolted; however, there may be slight run-outs that could be easily mitigated with gear (nuts/ tips to small hands cams), and you may clip the occasional pin or knife blade. Rock can be loose down low, but is solid on the head wall. Anchors are bolted, and the top anchors can be accessed by scrambling to the top from the right end of the wall. Most routes can be rapped in 2 <30 m sections, just watch your half way mark on the way up!
This wall gets blasted by the sun for most of the day, be ready for burning toes!
Getting There
At the parking lot (53.1746316, -117.9617390) walk along the edge towards the park gates until you pick up the trail that crosses the pond and heads up the relatively steep hill (if you are walking along the highway, you've gone too far!). Follow this trail as it flattens out, and then eventually becomes braided and heads up a slope towards Hidden Valley. Continue up the trail until you hit the ladder, go up and stay on the main trail, bearing left at any forks. This sector is the namesake First Wall, on your left just a minute or two's walk beyond the ladder.
