Per JF M: as of May 2022, there is no signage on-site, nor information on the USFS webpage for the Cameron Peak Fire (nor on their published map of closures) that indicates the area is closed.
Per Bruce Hildenbrand: it appears that the Forest Service has closed access to all the climbing areas accessed via Storm Mountain Road (Monastery, Cedar Park, Combat Rock, etc.) until they can clear all the dangerous dead trees from the Cameron Peak fire.
I worked this issue with Eric Murdock at the AF, and it looks like the Forest Service picked Devil's Gulch Road as the southern boundary even though all the climbing areas on MP.com were not burned.
Description
This canyon is downriver of Mary's Bust. With a small stream, this canyon has a lot of boulders and first ascent opportunities. It is very secluded from people and has much wildlife.
Getting There
If you park your car next to the concrete tunnel under the road (downriver of Mary's Bust), start hiking straight up the canyon. There is no trail, because I'm assuming very few people know about this place. If you're hauling, you can make it up the canyon in roughly 15-30 minutes. There are a lot of very high quality boulders in the bottom of the canyon, and at some points in your hike, it is wise to not walk directly next to the small river. At the top of the canyon, there are some supreme camping and exploring spots. The approach is quite rocky and rough at times, but at the top of the canyon, you won't regret it.
