Description
Getting There
From Corner Brook take Riverside Dr, from TCH 1 take HWY440 and take the bridge across the Humber River. Take a quick right turn after crossing the bridge and park at The Humber Valley Trail AKA Man In The Mountain trailhead. Approach the top of the cliff by following the Humber Valley Trail towards Wild Cove/Humber Village for 4km. At the bottom of the hill (4km in) off trail to right about 20m there is a blue flag followed by pink flagging that leads to the top of the wall.
It is possible to access the bottom of the cliff by tediously descending the scree slope down from the pond crossing on the path in, but rappelling down "The Log Drivers Waltz" route is much preferable.
To exit from the bottom a little easier scramble up scree slope is possible just to the left of the wall.
The most convenient approach is by boat via the Humber River. Along the river, stop at "The Grotto" which is a popular stop for river floaters. There isn't a path but the forrest followed by scree slope is easily navigable up to the base of the wall.
Boat approach tip:
"Directly across the river from the Grotto Wall, on the west-bound TCH is a pull-off that goes down by the river. The current here is gentle enough that a canoe can easily be taken across and back, eliminating the need for two vehicles if approaching by boat." - Andrew Stokes
