Description
The area Ith consists of a ~15 miles long ridge between the rivers Weser and Leine southwest of Hannover. There are over 100 natural limestone cliffs hosting >1400 routes. The cliffs are near the top of the ridge and are embedded in a beautiful forest consisting mainly of mature beech trees. Climbing is allowed at the following areas (from north to south): Marienauer Klippen, Bisperoder Klippen, Luerdisser Klippen, Scharfoldendorfer Klippen, Holzer Klippen. Lüerdisser Klippen is probably the most popular area and includes a campground run by the German Alpine Club ( jdav-nord.de/english)
For current regulations see https://ig-klettern-niedersachsen.de/klettergebiete/alle-klettergebiete-in-niedersachsen/ith/
The grading is sometimes a little stiff compared to other modern areas. Most easier climbs may have a bolt (or more) placed below the crux but you need to bring gear to lead-climb safely.
