Description
Solar Cove is on the SE side of Douthitt Mtn. The cove's climbing wall faces south and the left end of the wall wraps to the southwest which gives good west and north wind protection. The area can be too warm on a typical sunny windless day in summer until later afternoons when the area goes into shade. The rock type is Reese Mtn Granite with climbs as long as 100". There are 5 bolted sport routesthere so far with grades from 5.8 to 5.11c.
Getting There
From the Douthitt parking area head eastward to the saddle on the south side of Douthitt Mtn. Just east of the saddle's high point go north (left) to a grassy meadow. From the meadow the dome structure of Douthitt Mtn reveals the top of wall of the Solar Cove on the right side of the dome's skyline. Proceed to and up the gully coming down southward from the wall. Approach time: 1/2 hr.
