Description
Climbs from 5.11b to 5.14. Several climbs start out of a deep cave and feature burly boulders lower down, all climbs are overhanging at some point! This wall is home of "Kung-Fu Panda", one of the premier lines in the park. This sector is "L" shaped, with faces to the south and east- morning sun and a shade line that sweeps from left to right on the wall starting late morning.
For this sector, you can get away with a 60 m rope and ~10 quick draws. Most routes have chains with fixed biners. As with other sectors, be prepared to thread your rope as sometimes the screw-gates get jammed shut.
Getting There
From the parking area, walk up the main trail crossing both wooden bridges, the platform, and the rock bridge ~20 m after the sign for Angle Springs. Continue south along the trail for ~100 m, watching for a spur on your right (west). Take this, cross the creek on a rock/log bridge and follow the trail to the base of the cliff, this is "Lower Bear". Skirt along the cliff to the south (left), following the switch backing trail up past Middle and Upper Bear. Just above Upper Bear there is a short cliff band- follow the lightly worn trail south along the cliff band, up the switch backs and then it doubles back to the bear cave.
Alternatively, you can scramble up the corner just above Upper Bear to be deposited directly into the cave. If you have business at Bear Cave, this low 5th scramble should pose no difficulty, but I would not recommend it given the dirty and loose rock.
