Description Suggest change

The Thunderdome holds some of the biggest and best ice and mixed routes in the lower 48. It rises 1500 feet above Granite Lake, but when viewed from the lake it pales in comparison to the mighty A Peak standing 2500ft above the Thunderdome. Most of the routes are 6-10 pitches in length and the climbing usually includes both steep ice and rock. The routes usually catch a little bit of morning sun, but the short winter days may make it challenging to accomplish in the daylight. Many first ascents were started or ended with climbing by headlamp.

Getting There Suggest change

From Granite Lake, ski or walk across the lake to the south end. Walk up the main gully with Thunderdome being on the right side. This gully has a history of sliding several times per year, so be wary of avalanche danger.
