Description
Hemlock Block proper refers to the first section of cliff on the South side of the creek the when hiking in. It’s a buttress with routes facing N/NW on one side (Bayou Boy, etc) and W/SW on the other (Tabernacle). That being said, it is morning to all-day shade, depending on the route and time of year. Classics include the outstanding Flight of the Intruder (10c) and Tabernacle (12a). Tabernacle requires a 4th class scramble to access the base of the route, which starts on a ledge. Getting There
Take the main Deep Creek approach trail in the back right corner of the parking lot. Hike downhill for about 10-15 minutes, passing the Cumberland trail as you descend. Before crossing the creek, take a right at an obvious intersection and hike for another 5 minutes, crossing several fallen trees. Walk up a couple tight switchbacks, and find yourself at the base of Hemlock Proper.
