Description
Waiporous Creek is an incredibly remote area North of the Ghost, encompassing a good number of seldom climbed ice climbs and huge potential for new rock routes in a spectacular setting. The only downsides are access is fairly arduous, requires a beast of a 4x4 vehicle and even then approaches to climbs are long. For those willing to commit to getting out here however, the climbs are well worth it and you don't have to worry about getting scooped or seeing another soul around.
Getting There
Drive north on Highway 40 as for Ghost access, passing Waiporous Village and continuing north past the Ghost turn off, eventually the road will turn to a gravel road and you will see a large sign for the Waipourous Creek turn off. Follow this rough road, bearing left at the first fork and keeping the creek on your left. Eventually you will come to an intersection of the road and cutline with a parking area. Park here and follow the cutline directly to the drainage containing Kemosabe and Ice Funnel. One drainage south you will fine Caroline and Marion Falls.
