Description
**13,747 ft (4,190m)**
Mt Gabb is the highpoint of the Mono Divide - a solitary behemoth located just west of Mt Abbot. Mt Gabb is on the Sierra Peaks Section List and as such receives a number of ascents via it's easy southern slopes above Lake Italy.
Getting There
Getting to Mt Gabb is likely the crux of any ascent of the peak. It can be approached three different ways - all very long and some more physical than others.
The shortest and most direct approach option (super burly) - Mosquito Flat trailhead to Dade Lake, then up and over Cox Col (Bear Creek Spire descent route) and down into the Lake Italy basin behind. Expect ~8 miles to reach the southern slopes or northeast ridge. One can also access the North Face from here by passing up through Gabbot Pass then around to the glacier on the northern flanks (~10 miles).
Option 2 - Pine Creek Pass trailhead to Granite Park and Italy Pass, then down to Lake Italy. ~13 miles to the southern slopes of Gabb going this way.
Option 3 - Mosquito Flat trailhead to Mono Pass and way down to Second Recess, then up Second Recess to Upper Mills Creek Lake and the North Face of Gabb. ~16+ miles.
