Description
Freissinieres is the largest village in the Biaysse valley, the first major drainage south of the Vallouise and Ailefroide. There are two smaller north-facing crags (La Bec de l'Ase and L'Eperon dans la foret) opposite the river on the way up to the village, but the main attraction is the massive south-facing Grande Falaise. The cliff is split into lower and upper sectors, the upper sector requiring some slab scrambling to attain, and being split by a via ferrata as well.
The rock is very high quality grey limestone with edges predominating over pockets. The lower sector features routes up to 5 or 6 pitches while the upper had routes of up to 9 pitches.
There is little development in the valley but there are a couple options for lodging and a campground near Pallon in the lower drainage. The drive from Briancon is quite reasonable.

Getting There
When heading down the Durance River valley just before La Roche de Rame look for a crossing over the river. The Champ du Seigneur traverses the valley walls to Pallon and into the valley. A few kilometers up is the village of Freissinieres with the Falaise looming above. Turn right to enter the village, go through Les Houdous and find a small parking area with sign board at a sharp switchback. The approach is a fairly level and pleasant hike through meadows and woods. The first routes are reached within 10 minutes.
