Description Suggest change

The Phoenix Boulder is located NW of Morrell’s Parking lot Boulder in Morrell’s Parking Lot area. It’s got two to three fun climbs in very different style and is well worth a look since it’s only a 10-15 minute easy approach. The boulder gets morning shade till about 10am and is a reasonable choice for early morning climbing on a summer day. It’s also possible to set up a top rope on the PB without having to lead any of the climbs. PB has three sets of good anchors located on it’s summit. No trad gear necessary. If setting up a TR you’ll need 50 ft of cord or static rope (and a little creativity) to extend the anchors and cut down on rope drag; depending on the climb you’re setting up.

To access the summit scramble up the hill climber’s left of the climbs.

Getting There Suggest change

10-15 minute approach. Start out from Tom’s thumb trailhead on the TT trail. After 3-4 minutes you’ll take a left on mesquite canyon trail. Follow this for another five minutes before turning right on the Feldspar trail. Take feldspar a couple hundred yards further to the signage for Morrell’s Parking lot. Take a left here and follow the narrow but well grooved trail across the wash and up the hill. A climbers sign will then point you to the various areas in Morrell’s parking lot. The Phoenix is clearly visible from here. Take a right at the sign and follow the faint trail that crosses down across the wash and then winds up towards the boulder. All trails are well marked with trail signs.
