Giant's Stair Bouldering Climbing

A beautiful and popular tourist hike on Bailey Island follows a rugged coastline of jagged sedimentary rock and yields a few boulder problems. The Giant's Stairs trail and property is owned and maintained by the Town of Harpswell and make sure to stay on the public land. The sedimentary rock is layered, often overhanging and full of quartz and mica and not of the highest quality with sharp holds that can break. Most of the climbs are really short but a few taller lines exist especially at low tide. This is not a destination area but if you are here and have a pad it makes for an enjoyable afternoon. The rock is directly on the ocean and there can be big waves so be careful. Low tide is best and a crash pad is recommended. Keep a low profile and be friendly to the throngs of tourists.
