Description
Large boulder field with problems varying from slab to overhang. Problems vary from V0 to some possibly V8+ open projects. Great quality rock, with lots of thin, sharp crimps. Lots of fun problems that make it worth packing a pad or two a few miles up the hill.
Getting There
From Bozeman drive south on highway 191 towards Big Sky. At the 35 MPH bridge turn right onto the dirt road just before the bridge. Park at one of the three parking areas next to the trail-head/bathroom. Please do not block the turn around or gate at the end of the road even if the parking is full, park on the west side of the road in a few pull outs or in the pull out across the bridge.
Follow the Lava Lake Trail 3.5 miles to the lake, which will take anywhere from 1-2hrs depending on conditions. When you arrive at the lake, follow the leftward trail around the East side of the lake for roughly 0.1 miles. There will be an obvious boulder field of smaller diameter boulders, with a field of larger boulders just to the south. All of the current problems are found in this southern boulder field, with the Block Top Jr. boulder being the first boulder that you will run into.
