Description
Table Rock is a square-cut buttress of rock jutting out of the hillside in Snake Hill WMA. It boasts only a few routes, but it includes one of the hardest, and finest trad routes in the canyon: Fighting on Your Knees 5.12b/c, as well as classic 5.10 and 5.11 sport routes. There is currently one route of each number grade here from 5.10 to 5.13-, and its proximity to Castle Rock make it a great spot to warm up for harder lines.
Getting There
From I-68, get off Exit 7 (Pierpont Road), and head down Cheat Road, towards Cheat Lake. Turn right on Tyrone-Avery Road, and take another right at the intersection with Tyrone Road. After about 1/4 mile, turn left onto Snake Hill Road. Continue approximately 2 miles, and park at the gravel pull-off on the left, as the road makes a sharp turn to the right. Hike down the logging road until you arrive at a fork. Continue straight (on the left fork). After a couple more minutes, there will be a climber’s trail on the right, which will put you on the flat top of Table Rock. To reach the base of the crag, either rappel, or take the adventurous route, walking through the slot canyon. If you choose the adventurous route, you will need to take your pack off, and chuck it through an opening before you squeeze through.
Hiking time: 15 minutes
