As of May 2022, the entry fee to Wadi Rum was 5JD/person. The alternative to paying the entrance fee is to buy a Jordan Pass. If you get the Jordan Pass before you arrive in Jordan, your US visa fee ($56 US) is waived and the Jordan Pass allows access to places like Petra, Shobak Castle, etc.

At the Wadi Rum entrance complex is a Tourism Police office. If you are climbing at Wadi Rum, you are supposed to register with the police and give them a photocopy of your passport. Bringing a spare photocopy to give them saves some time, as they don't have a photocopier of their own.

Description

This slabby, south-facing wall contains about a dozen moderate sport routes and some longer routes. The rock is generally red sandstone with wonderful, varnished edges, reminiscent of the routes at the Second Pullout at Red Rocks in Nevada. The approximate coordinates are 29.532075, 35.421288.

The wall is split by a prominent, right-facing corner system, the line of Runner Up.

To the right of the corner are roughly 10 moderate routes that have modern glue-in bolts and fixed anchors at 25m or 35m. The first pitches vary slightly in difficulty (hard 5.6 to 5.10, with most 5.7/8). Some routes are totally bolted (sport) and others just have a couple fixed threads. It's fairly easy to traverse across to the anchors atop the pitches to TR a route that has less bolts than you desire.

To the left of the prominent, right-facing corner system of Runner Up are two shorter trad routes - The Marvel of Mankind and Hanging Gardens of Zagorchev.

Getting There

Hire a Bedouin driver to take you to the formation from the village. If the driver is unfamiliar with the cliff, tell them to take you to Jebel al Mzelgah or M'zeygeh, which is just north of al Raq المزيلقة قريب شمال جبل الرقعة
