Description

An excellent sport climbing area with a short approach and routes from 5.9 to 5.14a. This limestone crag has 78 bolted routes, some of which are two pitches.The rock is solid and full of pockets and there are flakes and tufa's as well. Climbing is best in the spring and fall but it is possible to climb here year round, though the cliff only gets shade after 5pm and can get really hot in the sun in the summer. You will need 16+ quickdraws and a 70 meter rope (and a 80 and 20+ draws for the extensions). Tons of work has been put into the trails and base and bolting (most routes have quick clips) and there is even a cabin that sleeps 6-8 people. All of the routes have beautiful tile work with the route names at their base.

Getting There

A quick 30 minute drive from Meteora and a short approach make this a great crag to check out if you are in the area. Drive to the town for Pyli and then towards the town the Trikala. In the little town of Paleomonastiro turn right and head to the town of Mouzaki. Take the road through town towards Argithea and Lake Plastria and after you drive 2k out of town take a right hand turn towards the town of Porti. The road is steep, uphill and has switchbacks. At the second bend park at the spot for 5-6 cars. The GPS coordinates of the parking are 39.414057, 21.664544. There are sights to the crag and the trail is well marked and you can see the cliff from the parking. The trail splits and takes you to different parts of the cliff.
