Description
The Shaman sector of Datça is a nice sunny wall that offers almost 20 base routes, many with harder high quality extensions. The lower section of the cliff is all less than vertical to vertical climbing on grey rock. The extensions climb through white rock with more varied holds and even some small tufa formations. The climbing style is typically crimpy, technical face climbing on smaller holds but there are occasional thank god jugs!
Getting There
The best approach trail to sectors Uzak Zurafa, Papynosaure, Shaman and Nastrolopitheque is located directly underneath the massive cave formation called Can Baba. Locate a couple rock piles next to the dirt road (kerens) that mark the trailhead and park so that other vehicles may easily pass. Cross a small stream bed that is normally dry and follow a well-worn trail that zig zags up the hillside toward the center of this huge face. When you break through the undergrowth you'll be standing in front of a massive wall and at the left side of Uzak Zurafa.
To reach Papynosaure hang a left on the path a few metres before arriving at Uzak Zurafa (the main cliff). Follow this trail that traverses along the base of the wall for 5 minutes and you'll arrive at sector Shaman.
