Description
The folks at Phat Tire Ventures negotiated with the government and were given permission to put in a few anchors and bolts up on the mountain. This is not a destination, and not open to the public but if you're in town and want to become one of the attractions for the tourists then gear up with the guys at PTV and pull on some rock. There exist maybe 5 TR anchors in a few different areas allowing for several variations to be climbed (5.6 - 5.11). These are accessed by hiking/scrambling paths which the guides from Phat Tire are familiar with. There is also one leadable route (5.10-). Sun, heat, and humidity are mighty forces here in the tropics, you probably wouldn't regret bringing a towel and a fan. The hardest route available is an overhanging crack (Honeymoon Crack 5.11) that sees very little traffic and consequently is a little dirty but a fun challenge. I heard a rumor about an indoor wall in Hoi An, ask at Phat Tire for more information. All in all the climbing is fun and hard enough to challenge most comers. The guides are expensive, but if you have an itch for climbing they can help you scratch it. Plan on a half day, they provide harness, shoes (that may or may not fit), chalk, rope, belayer (do your safety checks, this isn't AMGA certified), lunch, and water. The caves on the mountain are neat and our guide gave us a bunch of fun history like pointing out bullet holes in the wall!
