Description
Sitting only a few hundred yards from the second southernmost tip of mainland Greece, these crags can get a bit windy. That's good or bad depending on whether it's warm (hot) or cold.
Both multi-pitch and (mostly) single pitch-to-lower-offs dominate the crag.
The Theodorpoulos book (see below) sub-divides "West Zobolo" into 4 sub-sub-areas: 1) West Zobolo, 2) Aspra, 3) Ekpedeftikes and 4) Protos Tihos, but there are no natural dividing lines to these, just arbitrary climbs. (This caused us a bit of confusion), so for now let's keep it simple and have just three areas:
1. West Zobolo
2. East Zobolo ("around the corner" from West)
3. Hioni (a km or so to the northeast)
Zobolo is located a few miles southeast of the city-port of Neapoli, which offers the usual city amenities. If you plan to camp (? legality ?) bring all your water.
Guidebooks - The guidebook listed to the left may not cover this area. The best guidebook for this area is "Greece, The Best of Sport Climbing", 2nd edition (2017) by Aris Theodoropoulos". Apparently now you can purchase the guidebook (from the U.S.) from climbgreece.com/guidebook. He *does* ship pretty much anywhere.

Getting There
You need to get to the city of Neapoli. From Athens you probably want to go through Sparta; from Leonidio the best route is probably through Geraki and then Molai to Neapoli. From Kyparissi also go through Molai.
As you drive into and through Neapoli the main drag will eventually be a wide street right on the waterfront with shops and hotels on your left and the sea and the docks to the right. Turn left at the apothecary/drugstore with the green cross.
See photo of Map Follow this main road towards the town of Aghios Nikolaos. (i.e. Saint Nikolas, Merry Christmas !)
At one point, if you're on the correct road, they'll be a brown sign with "climbing Area" , here bear right for the "bi-pass" road. (turning left is the usual "it looks like an alleyway" road into town)
Continue on until there is a "Y" with a sign "to the fossil forest" take the left onto the dirt road. Follow this for a few km to the turn-off on the left to the parking lot.
If you get lost anywhere on the way, just ask how to get to the fossil forest. The parking area for the cliff is on the left a km or so BEFORE the fossil forest. .
