Boulders are sandstone, like in Nam Phong National Park. There are hundreds of boulder and everything to climb, crimp, jug, slab, overhang, technical climbing. The only difference is that the rocks are on top of the mountain and most of them are virgin--never been touched nor climbed before. Loose holds are still there so you will have to be very careful and check out the descend before start climbing up! Please don’t try any highball or sketchy problem without checking the loose holds and thoroughly cleaning!
The boulder fields are surrounded by a 9-km long dirt road. Khon Kaen Climbing Club has been working intensively on developing and we spotted more than a hundreds of sandstone boulders. As in Apr 2018, we listed 9 sections and hundreds of boulders. We have cut the trail system pretty well on the Power Station, Water Park, The Ridge, Ghost Tongue, Jurassic Park, Central Park, and Canyonland. As we don't have many climbers living here, the trail in some areas might have vegetation regrow. We also started developing hundreds of problems there already (Apr 2018). If you have tools, you can cut weed and vines to develop new problems, avoid cutting tree. Normally when we develop, we always keep taking pictures of boulders before and after we clean and send to the zoo director so he is aware of what we are doing. Please communicate with us if you want to clean and try a new line.
We have been working closely with the zoo director, and we are authorized to develop and climb boulders in the zoo. The zoo is open daily from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM. The only thing is that you are required to pay an entry fee THB 150. This fee includes other awesome amenities in the zoo area like clean restrooms, restaurants and shops, animals viewing, and access to the Water Park! So you can jump in the water after the climbing in tropical heat!
