Description Suggest change

Las Palestras is one of the most popular sport climbing crags in the Cajon de Maipo (more specifically, "El Manzano," the area near the entrance to Cajon de Maipo), with about 50 routes ranging from 5.9 to 5.13 spread among five zones. The rock is volcanic and routes are generally vertical to slightly less than vertical. The routes are south facing but generally see at least some sun during the day meaning you can climb here most of the year.

Getting There Suggest change

Make your way into the Cajon de Maipo (El Manzano), either by bus or by car. To reach the trailhead, make a left into a driveway (Las Palmas) just before the Petrobras gas station on your right. There is a small bus stop just before the driveway. Follow the driveway about 300 feet to a closed gate. The trailhead is beyond the gate. If driving, you can either park right outside the gate or open the gate and park to the left. The land is private but the owner knows that climbers use the land. If parking inside the gate, you should offer to pay a small amount (500CLP per person) to the owner to park for the day. The trailhead starts toward your right as you enter the gate at a steep sandy incline. You'll pass a couple power line towers and a small water canal. The steep hike takes about 15-20 mins to reach the crag
