Access Issue: Mount Charleston Wilderness Area Details

Description

A beautiful varied wall that gets shade from mid morning on during the season. Sits on the right side of North Echo at the lowest point of the cliff. Bulletproof rock, incredible chert, smooth blocky roofs, and interesting holds make for some amazing climbing. A fantastic crag for the 5.12 leader, with plenty of moderates as well; it's bound to be a popular place.

Getting There

Approach via the Cathedral Trail. Just before arriving at the second bench, look for a concealed climbers' trail off left behind an aspen. Follow this to its terminus: you've arrived at Sonar Wall.

This is a truly wonderful cliff that is destined for popularity. Great routes in a cool setting across a spectrum of grades. Great work, Mike!! Sep 24, 2017
^+1 on all attributes! Great position/view, good lines, gorgeous wall and a cruiser hike. Great work Mr. Kimm! Sep 24, 2017

My absolute favorite cliff at Charleston- north facing so it's good temps pretty much anytime it's warm, super solid rock, and a slew of classic routes in the hard 11 to mid 12 range.

The scenery is tough to beat, as you're in this nice secluded area with killer views of the entirety of Kyle Canyon. Despite being right off a major trail, it never feels like you're exposed to the crowds.

The entire cliff is equipped with lower-offs, which makes for a pleasant experience no matter how busy it is.

If I'd never bolted anything else around Las Vegas, I'd still be proud of my contribution with only this crag.
There's nowhere on Charleston I'd rather be than at this wall, even if I wasn't climbing. And the climbing is superb: the chert is bomber and technical with great friction and excellent moves at the grades. The run of 12s in the middle of the wall are some of the most varied and interesting lines I've ever touched. And the crown jewel, Red October, is the absolute pride of my sport climbing ascents. I still have dreams about that thing, and wake up happy!
I really hope that after I leave other developers come behind me and give the rest of Echo the attention it deserves. There are so many incredible lines to explore! Feb 17, 2018
Awesome work guys, this crag is amazing! cant wait to come back Apr 3, 2018
