Description of Arginonta (pronounced R-yeen-ON-tah)

Arginonta Valley proper is a series of three walls Left Cave, Middle Wall and Right Wall. The routes are often 25-30m in height and have a plethora of bolts to choose from. No need to trim down your rack for the hike, as it's only a few minutes walk from the valley floor.

The routes are dirty, likely as they are newly developed and heavily cleaned from vegetation. Pockets are often filled with dirty and the base has that fine dust so a rope bag is desired not only for your cord, but the longevity of the anchors above. Some routes are taking as many as 17 QD's and predominantly fall in the 5c-6b range.

A friendly base for kiddos with many goats hanging out nearby. This is an excellent area if you're seeking shade, in need of a short approach and/or looking for mileage.

Getting There

From the main parking area of Arginonta Valley you can pass through the goat gate near the Olive grove and skirt the base coming along the right wall first. Optionally, walk the road for a few hundred yards until you see a break in the fence line and signage for the "new" and direct access point. The trial is established, not too steep and takes only a few minutes to reach the top which dumps you near middle wall.

This area is cleaning up nicely. The 7's in the left cave are spectacularly steep and fun jug hauls and the tall grey walls on the right provide plenty of options for warming up and keeping your weaker partners psyched. Rock quality is not quite on par with the rest of the island but still good shady fun. Jan 18, 2018
