Description
A small crag both in height and breadth. But its Northeastern aspect coupled with it being hidden in the trees make it a perfect summer destination. It also has an easy, stroller-friendly approach and level grounds, so its a great place for families with small children.
The climbing is on pockets and the rock dries quickly with the exception of two routes, Bärendreck and Hier tanzt der Bär, which remain a bit slippery for a while. The route difficulty attracts the less extreme and beginning climbers.
This area description is complete with the exception of one route, Mehl-Beer, which is a link-up of the two right-most climbs and avoids the crux of each, making it a 5.9. If you want to do it, start on Goldbär and clip the 2nd bolt, then head up and right past a sling to the third bolt of Test-Bär and to its anchor.

Getting There
Near the gas station in Gößweinstein is the street "Am Bärenstein". Drive up this street for about 400m to park on the left. If you correctly made the curve around the left to reach the parking, then walk back about 50m to the hiking trail on your left into the woods. It leads towards Stadelhofen, among other destinations. Follow this trail uphill until the old soccer field, and on the left before reaching the goal post follow the trail uphill. The trail will begin to go back downhill and fork. Take the right fork and follow this trail into an open field. A short walk further along the path leads you to a small opening back into the woods where you can now see the crag waiting for you like something out of "The Secret Garden".
