Description
Patina Pin is a large outcrop with four long routes, including three well-bolted sport routes and a trad line. There are also two options for top roping other sections of the face from existing anchors. Climbs on Patina Pin and Minnie Pin conveniently face each other across a narrow north-south oriented corridor. Patina routes face west, Minnie’s face east. 60 m rope works for most climbs. One Way on Ramp is 34 m but lowering drops you quite ways uphill, so 60 m may work for that one also.
Getting There
Access to Patina Pin starts from FS Road 402C as you would for the other southern pins. There is a fork in the informal trail in an opening about 0.2 mile from wide spot in road – watch for the cairns leading in two directions. Left-hand trail goes south to Tillie Pin. From intersection continue straight following a narrow but distinct trail uphill and then around to the left, topping out on an open ridge. The trail disappears here. You can catch a glimpse of Patina Pin to the southwest through the trees. Head down slope in that general direction, first through the forest and then into a burned-out basin. Pick your way through the downfall across and then up to Patina and Minnie.
